Islamabad: A medical Pakistani-Hindu student was found lifeless in her hostel room at the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) in Larkana, as per media reports on Tuesday.
Nimrita Kumari, a student of the SMBBMU’s Bibi Aseefa Dental College, was found dead on Monday in her hostel room, the university administration confirmed it.
The body found lying on a charpoy with a rope tied to her neck while her room was locked from inside, The Express Tribune reported.
According to information, Nimrita’s friends grew worried when she did not respond to their knocks on the door for numerous minutes.
One of her friends told the police “She was neither responding to the knocking at the door nor to our shouts.”
The hostel’s watchman later broke open the door and found her lifeless, reports said.
Kumari was enrolled in the university’s Bachelor of Dental Surgery programme and was a final-year student, reports The News International.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Aneela Atta-ur-Rahman they had formed a committee to review Kumari’s suspected suicide. It would be headed by the principal of Larkana’s Chandka Medical College, she added.
The dead student’s parents, who live in Karachi, had been informed, the Vice-Chancellor added.
The police have also launched an investigation into the case.
