Christian Marriage Bill to be sent to Law Ministry

ISLAMABAD: (Christian Times) – Minister for Human Rights Mumtaz Ahmad Tarrar has on Thursday decided to send the Christian Marriage Bill to the Ministry of Law for examining. The bill has come just after the passing of Hindu and Sikh marriage acts in Sindh and Punjab assemblies respectively.

The Minister of State for Human Rights Barrister Usman Jamali was a part of the meeting that decided to send the Christian Marriage Bill 2017 to the Ministry of Law. He read the bill to the meeting and apprised the participants about the objections raised and amendments suggested by the Christian delegation.

All the members attending the meeting agreed that the amendments and upgrading of the Christian Divorce Act 1869 and Christian Marriage Act 1870 were the need of the hour.

The delegation that met the officials at Ministry of Human Rights included renowned pastors, lawyers and members of various academies and civil society. The delegation said that the act must be in accordance with the laws set out by the Bible.

The Christian delegation said that the Christian Marriage Act should be applicable on the provincial level. The federal and minister of state for human rights assured the delegation on the occasion that all the resolutions presented at the provincial level in this regard will also be taken into account so that the law would be applied on the entire country.
