Pakistan: Committee formed for blocking blasphemous material on internet

ISLAMABAD: (Christian Times) – The government of Pakistan has formed a committee for the surveillance and blocking of blasphemous material online.

According to media reports, the committee formed by the interior ministry constitutes members from Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the ministry.

Talking to National Assembly’s standing committee for information technology, PTA head Dr Ismail Shah told that another team of 25 members belonging to IT has also been set up.

He told that so far his institution had blocked some 13,000 links containing blasphemous material. However, the doctor said, it was not possible to locate all the links containing blasphemous material through machines only.
