The Express Tribune Apology Note

0 93

In last day the Express Tribune had to publish the apology note because; on 26th October, 2018 Pakistani News paper Express Tribune published news about increasing of electricity consumption charges. In which there was a picture shown; which was the offense against Christian faith. That picture offended the entire Christians of Pakistan so badly; so there was a campaign began on social media to stop posting such kind of insulting stuff and pictures by Pakistani news online portals by other media because publication was an open violation of human or minorities’ rights. Christian Times also condemned through rolling its own part in that campaign.

In result of that online campaign The Express Tribune news administration realized the blunder done by them so they published an apology note for Christian community of Pakistan on 28th October, 2018. In that note it was written

“The Express Tribune apologizes to its readers for the political cartoon published in the newspaper’s edition of October

The imagery used in the cartoon has deeply hurt the sensibilities of our citizens and therefore conflicts with the strong editorial and ethical standards we have otherwise set for ourselves.

The management is taking appropriate action against those responsible.

We assure our readers that utmost efforts will be undertaken in the future to ensure that such material does not find itself into print, web and online editions again.

We are committed to upholding the highest standards of responsible journalism while realizing that our readers expect nothing less from us.

There was never any intent to hurt the sensitivities of any particular community or group. Any such purported depiction is purely coincidental and inadvertent.

The lapse in judgment is deeply regretted.”

That apology note was a really worthy step by Express Tribune because it again proved that minorities are not always rejected; but many of Pakistanis respect the rights of the minorities of as per Pakistan’s law.
