Sukhwant Thethi, Liberal Candidate for Brampton South, gave his enthusiastic support for a range of initiatives to keep Seniors healthy, active and able to receive care in their homes with the Ontario Budget announced last Wednesday.
“Providing additional benefits for seniors 75 and over to live active, health and independent lives in their own homes improves the quality of life and affordability for Ontario families,” says Sukhwant Thethi.
The new initiatives in the Liberal Plan include:
- a “Healthy Home Program” providing a $750 yearly benefit for those 75 and over who still live at home with their maintenance and improvement expenses
- a large boost to the number of caregiver visits to client’s homes
- placement of a registered full-time nurse at each long-term care facility for seniors
- provision of an average of four hours of personal daily care for each facility resident by 2022
These initiatives are in addition to prior announcements for expanding the existing OHIP+ program to cover prescription drug costs for seniors 65 and over.
“Once elected on June 7, I will ensure that these programs dramatically improving the quality of life, peace of mind and economic prospects for Ontario families is delivered,” states Thethi.
