Pakistan mulls giving 5pc quota to minorities in govt jobs

ISLAMABAD: The sixth meeting of the National Commission for Minorities under the headship of Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousaf has agreed on expediting the efforts to set up a dialogue centre for interreligious harmony.

The meeting also demanded recommendations for scholarships and initiation of technical education for minorities. The meeting was told that 5percent of the government jobs were being given to the minorities under their quota.

The meeting was attended by MNA Asiya Nasir, Bishop of Lahore Irfan Jamil, Professor Mehr Dad Yousuf, Allama Muhammad Asghar Khan Askari and senior officials of the ministries of interior, law and CAD, and officials from Islamic Ideology Council.

Reports from the concerned departments regarding the issues raised during the previous meeting were also examined. Ministry of Interior told the meeting that 14 cases had been registered against hate speech while 82 cases had been registered across the country on abuse of loudspeaker.
