11 dead, several injured in police check-post attack near Raiwind

LAHORE: At least eleven people have died while many have been reportedly injured in an attack on a check-post in Raiwind.

The explosion was so heavy that the cars parked nearby caught fire. Rescue and security teams reached the scene as soon as they got the reports and started shifting the injured to the hospital. Some of the injured are reportedly critical.

Meanwhile, the security agencies have sealed the area and blocked it for the traffic, tightening the security of the area.

Operations DIG told that the attack was carried out at a police check-post near the Tableeghi Jamaat centre and the policemen were targeted. The initial reports suggested that it was a bomb planted in a motorbike but later turned out to be a suicide attack. He told that the injured had been shifted to THQ and Jinnah hospitals and nine among them were police officials.

SP Umar Farooq of Lahore police told that all the exit routes of Lahore had been sealed.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident and demanded a report from Police IG. He directed that the injured must be provided with every possible medical care.
