Council of Islamic Ideology suggests punishment for false allegation of blasphemy

ISLAMABAD: Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has forwarded its recommendations to curb the abuse of the blasphemy law to the parliament upon which senators of a religious party protested and cleared that not even a discussion on the issue of blasphemy was acceptable to them.

CII had recommended that if a blasphemy allegations is proven as false then the accuser must also be handed the same sentence as recommended for the one found guilty of blasphemy.

The recommendations include the provision that at least two witnesses of a blasphemy incident must be made compulsory for the filing of an FIR in such a case while only a senior police officer would be allowed to register the FIR.
