Mauritania: Blasphemers’ imprisonment sentences extended
MAURITANIA: (Christian Times) – According to the new laws passed in African country Mauritania, people found guilty of committing blasphemy or converted from Islam to any other religion would all get death sentences. This important announcement has come just after the release of a blogger accused of committing blasphemy.
It is important to remember that a court in Mauritania had released a blogger on November 9 in a blasphemy case after he apologized for his mistake. Countrywide protests have been recorded against the court decision.
The blogger released by the court had criticised the religious justification for racism upon which he had been arrested and imprisoned in 2014. However, the blogger was released on November 9 after completing his sentence term.
