Religious identification must for all civil, military services: IHC

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has on Friday ruled in its Khatam-e-Nabuwwat case verdict that the constitution of Pakistan defined what a Muslim and non-Muslim meant and thus an affidavit based on this constitutional interpretation of faith must be made mandatory for all civil and military services.

In his short order on the petitions regarding amendment in the Khatam-e-Nabuwwat clauses of the constitution, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of IHC stated that affidavits of faith must also be taken from all the civil, military and judicial service aspirants.

The short order written both in Urdu and English languages says that the finality of the Prophet was a pillar of Islam and its protection was the duty of every Muslim.

It added that NADRA must set a time period within which the mistake on the CNIC regarding the religious faith of a person can be corrected and ordered the government to ensure that the authentic documents regarding every citizen are available with it.

Justice Siddiqui also ordered investigation into the discrepancies in the census and NADRA records.
