LAHORE: The global pressure on Pakistan regarding its blasphemy laws is mounting each passing day. US and various human rights organisations have repeatedly stated that the abuse of this law must stop at any cost.
In January this year, the United States State Department had clearly stated that Pakistan had been added to the list of the countries of high religious freedom concern primarily because of these blasphemy laws.
Recently, Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has granted Pakistan time till June only to take strong measures to curb religious extremism or it could be added to the FATF blacklist.
The critics of the law say that the law has given rise to the extremism in Pakistani society. And the situation has gone out of control because the law is often used for settling personal scores as well.
