LAHORE: Christian Member of Punjab Assembly from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Mrs Shunila Ruth was on Friday snubbed by Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker over the issue of 18-year-old Christian youth Patras Masih.
Ruth raised the issue before the provincial assembly, saying that Patras Masih had been arrested from Shahdra over a blasphemy allegation along with his cousin 24-year-old Sajid Masih and handed to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further investigation.
“Such is the level of our investigation institutions that they started investigations from the suspects right before the complainants and the two Christian youths were brutalized during the investigations and threatened of dire consequences”, she said.
The brave MPA told the house that the youths were then taken to the fourth floor of the building where Sajid was asked to sodomise Patras Masih. She severely criticised the FIA for its despicable ‘methods of inquiry’. She said that the FIA officials’ actions were shameful and they had stooped to the lowest level possible.
However, the deputy speaker of Punjab Assembly snubbed Shunila on the occasion, ordering her to not talk against ‘national institutions’. He said that it was ‘unfair’ to criticise the national institutions over a newspaper report.
But Ruth continued her speech despite Deputy Speaker’s repeated attempts to silence her. She said that she was in contact with the affected family and not only were their families extremely horrified after this incident but many of the families there had already left their houses locking their houses down because they were not being provided with any security whatsoever.
Shunila Ruth demanded forming a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) for a transparent inquiry of the matter but the deputy speaker said that a JIT could not be formed over a newspaper report.
Brave Shunila Ruth raises voice for Patras & Sajid Masih, is given shut up call by deputy speaker of Punjab Assembly who refuses to acknowledge the horrendous incident & dismisses it as “a newspaper report.”
