LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday dismissed the plea from Imran Ali, the convict in Zainab murder case, to overrule the judgment by Anti-Terror Court (ATC) that sentenced him to death by hanging four times, alongside heavy fines and imprisonment.
The culprit who had been found guilty of raping and murdering a 7-year-old girl in Kasur after his DNA matched with the one found from the victim’s body prayed before the high court that the ATC had overlooked the due process of law and had passed the judgment in haste.
LHC rejected the plea upholding the decision by ATC. Zainab had been found dead from a heap of garbage early in January after which protests had broken out throughout Punjab. Two protesters had died in Kasur after the police opened fire at them upon breaking into commissioner’s office.
The murderer was caught after thorough deliberations and in the end DNA testing had helped the Punjab police reach the real perpetrator.
