LAHORE: (Christian Times) – Bishops of Pakistan elected Joseph Arshad from Faisalabad as its new president. The election was held on 9th and 10th of November in the annual meeting at Lahore. Talking to media after being elected, Joseph Arshad said that he had a lot of responsibilities and education was one of his top priorities. He stressed upon the Christian youth to step forward and play a positive role in the development of Pakistani society.
In its statement after the conference, Bishops of Pakistan stated that the organisation was deeply concerned about the rising level of corruption in the country. We should be clear of all kinds of corruption in all our matters. This is a grave challenge faced by the entire nation. We must all accept our failures as a nation and ask forgiveness for them. If we start cleaning ourselves, it will mark a bright future for all.
The statement read that free and fair election was pivotal to a stable government. We’ll continue to face these problems in graver forms if unfair elections continue to take place. The bishops also stressed that the political parties must openly discuss the problems faced by the minorities in order to have a stronger democracy.
