PESHAWAR: (Christian Times) – Zafar Abbas had been appointed as deputy director prosecution in Mashal Khan but was de-notified last month. The lawyer of Mashal Khan’s father had told the court that Zafar Abbas hadn’t appeared before the court since the first hearing of the case on September 19.
Earlier, Mashal Khan’s father, Iqbal Khan, had also raised questions over the appointment of Zafar Abbas, claiming that Abbas didn’t have the ability to challenge this case.
Iqbal Khan has also expressed dissatisfaction over the claim of the provincial government to be bearing the expenses of the case. He said that he had nominated two lawyers but the provincial government had approved of only one of them.
It is pertinent to mention here that the suspects in the murder case are being represented by 25 different lawyers. It is to be seen if the sole lawyer from Iqbal Khan’s side would be able to counter all of them alone.
According to Mardan police, so far 57 suspects have been rounded up in this case while four are still in the hiding. 40 witnesses have recorded their statements till now while there are others still whose testimonies are to be recorded. These witnesses include teachers and students at the university.
